Faculty Services and Resources

Why Library Instruction?

Library instruction is designed to meet the needs of each instructor’s course.  Librarians can introduce students to library resources, information technology, research strategies, and information literacy skills.

To arrange for library instruction, please use the Instruction Request Form or email library staff at asklibrary@tstc.edu.

Types of Library Instruction

Traditional Instruction

Library orientation is designed to familiarize students with library resources and services.  This is a vital step for new students, allowing them to develop essential research skills that they will carry with them throughout their time at TSTC.

We offer both live and pre-recorded orientations where students are guided through our online catalog, accessing databases, and explain how to find valuable learning tools.  These sessions can be catered to faculty requirements, allowing the instruction to align with your course objectives.

Flipped Classroom Instruction

This method allows students to learn new content before applying that knowledge in the orientation session.

As part of the student’s coursework, the instructor assigns a library-produced instructional video that relates to an upcoming assignment.  Students watch this video before class and come prepared to discuss questions directly relating to their assignment.  During the classroom visit, instead of a 30-minute lecture, the librarian can field questions and engage in group discussions and activities.
