Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
The Association of Surgical Technologists was established in 1969 by members of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Hospital Association (AHA), and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN). The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the surgical technology profession will grow faster than the average of all other occupations through the year 2020, and it is anticipated that the volume of surgery will increase exponentially due to the expanding senior population.
The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
The mission of the NBSTSA is to be the gold standard provider of professional certification of surgical technologists (CST®) and surgical first assistants (CSFA®), supporting continuing education, thus promoting superior patient care in the surgical setting.
Association of Surgical Assistants (ASA)
The Association of Surgical Assistants represents a broad coalition of surgical assistant practitioners, who share several common goals, including optimizing surgical patient care, promoting the recognition of all surgical assistants, advancing legislative strategies and providing relevant continuing education experiences.

BON -- Texas Board of Nursing
The Board: protects the public from unsafe nursing practice, provides approval for more than 200 nursing education programs, issues licenses to more than 27,000 nurses per year by examination to new graduates and by endorsement to licensees from other states seeking a Texas license, as well as providing nursing practice and education guidance to more than 350,000 currently licensed nurses practicing in the State of Texas.
WHO -- World Health Organization
The World Health Organization is the organization responsible for directing and coordinating matters having to do with health in the United Nations. WHO also guides health researchers, decides norms and standards, and provides leadership on other global health issues.

CDC -- Center for Disease Control and Prevention
