Evaulating Websites

The internet contains a lot of great information but not all of it is accurate. Since anyone can publish anything on the web it is sometime difficult to know if a website contains factual information. Print sources, such as books and journals go through a peer review or editing process meaning that the information found using them is often more reliable.

Use our guide as a starting point to help evaluate a website’s credibility.

Dental Hygiene Websites

ADHA -- American Dental Hygienists Association
Founded in 1923, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of the more than 185,000 registered dental hygienists (RDHs) across the country.
TDHA -- Texas Dental Hygienists' Association
State focused organization of dental hygienists with the mission of supporting Texas dental hygienists and promoting good oral health.
TSBDE -- Texas State Board of Dental Examiners
The Mission of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners is to protect the public health and safety and promote high quality and safe dental care by providing enforcement, licensing, peer assistance, and related information services to licensees and their patients.
CDCA -- Commission on Dental Competency Assessments
The CDCA is a nonprofit, independent corporation, comprised of a consortium of 29 state and international dental boards. The CDCA administers the ADEX dental and dental hygiene examination and also develops, administers, scores, and reports the results of its own examinations.
WREB -- Western Regional Examining Board
The mission of the Western Regional Examining Board is to develop and administer competency assessments for State agencies that license dental professionals.
CRDTS -- Central Regional Dental Testing Service
The Central Regional Dental Testing Service, Inc. (CRDTS for short) is a testing service made up of State Boards of Dentistry who have joined forces to develop and administer fair, valid and reliable examinations of competency to practice dentistry and dental hygiene.
CITA -- Council of Interstate Testing Agencies
The Council of Interstate Testing Agencies, Inc. (CITA) is a non-profit corporation that was founded on July 15, 2005. As an independent regional testing agency that administers the ADEX dental clinical licensure examination and the ADEX dental hygiene clinical licensure examination at various testing sites, CITA continues to set standards of excellence in its testing administration. CITA is composed of 8 member jurisdictions -- Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, West Virginia, Arkansas and Utah.
SRTA -- Southern Regional Testing Agency
SRTA will continue to provide valid, reliable, legally defensible examinations and results while striving to implement new testing methodologies in a candidate focused environment for the next generation of dental professionals.
ADA -- American Dental Association
Founded in 1859, the not-for-profit American Dental Association is the nation's largest dental association, representing more than 161,000 dentist members.

CDC -- Center for Disease Control and Prevention
The homepage for the CDC, a federal agency that conducts and supports health promotion, prevention, and preparedness activities in the United States, with the goal of improving overall public health.
DSHS -- Texas Deptartment of State Health
Information for allied health students across Texas. This site offers public health and safety information for all Texans.
FDA -- Food and Drug Administration
The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of food, drugs and products.
Flu.gov
HHS is the managing sponsor for this site, which concentrates solely on various flu pandemics and information.
Healthy People
Healthy People 2020 challenges individuals, communities and professionals to take specific steps to ensure that good health, as well as long life, are enjoyed by all.
HHS -- Department of Health and Human Services
A wide range of public health services exists under the HHS roof.
NIH -- National Institutes of Health
NIH is an agency of the HHS and is the primary agency of the United States government responsible for biomedical and health-related research.

Nutrition.gov provides easy access to vetted food and nutrition information from across the federal government. It serves as a gateway to reliable information on nutrition, healthy eating, physical activity, and food safety for consumers.

Offers information on dosage, generic, and veterinary drugs. Includes a utility that identifies pills by size, color, and imprint.
RxList
RxList is an online medical resource dedicated to offering detailed and current pharmaceutical information on brand and generic drugs.
